A brief history of the 1989 Tiananmen Square Massacre

posted Thursday, 4 June 2009
In June 1989 the Mainland Chinese government sent in tanks and troops to crush peaceful demonstrators who had gathered in Tiananmen Square, Beijing. And every years since it has done it's level best to prevent the Chinese people from discussing and/or debating the issue. It has censored the media, locked people up for speaking out or for calling on the government to correctly address the issue, and in recent years it has knocked various websites off of the air on the Mainland in the days and months leading up to the anniversary of the massacre.

And every years, just as Beijing tries to crack down on free speech so people speak up all the louder, striving to be heard. Well, here, as every year, is ACB's contribution. It's blocked in much of the Mainland so you may need to point a proxy to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OXHvL6TKOYY in order to view it.

Never forget, and never give in.

The event itself and the pointless censorship by the Chinese government is terrible. But I think some media outlets use the legacy of Tiananmen to paint an inaccurate picture of China (I was watching Fox News recently and it was shockingly anti-Chinese).

We in the West can't demand that China face up to the truth of its past unless we're being honest with ourselves and totally truthful about what is known about Tiananmen in 1989.

china is in a dollar trap, $2000 bn in $ assets it can't get out of. the solution to china's problem to forestall a situation when the us plans to default on this debt and send china into freefall is to take large derivative positions (esp shorting) of US stockmarket and US dollar currency. china then 'slams' (sells large positions in US assets and stocks in a short space of time) the stocks and US $ to cause it to collapse but make huge returns on the derivative positions. once this happens investors will flock to treasuries allowing china to get out of these positions quickly and into more stable assets (i.e. buying large stakes in world corporations across the world). repetition of this technique can allow china to draw down US treasury positions.

For those saying such ugly lies as "armies were required not to shot people" and that some people might have been killed in the "confusion" "after the people attacked the army firt", here is a (hard) slice of reality with rare pictures:

http://www.tibet-defacto.com/2009/06/04/il-y-a-20-ans-le-massacre-de-tianan men/

The text is in french but I can summarize what is happening. The last students are leaving Tiananmen square. The manifestations have ended. When the students arrive in Chang’an avenue at the Liubukou crossroads, they see 3 tanks driving straight at them. And then, teargas. The students are trying to avoid the tanks by climbing the fences. No luck: eleven students are crushed.

Those pictures have been taken by chinese students at that time. The whole event took less than 20 minutes. We are far far away from the "army being attacked" and from the "we had no choice" stories. Those tanks needlessly killed students who were leaving calmly Tiananmen square. So what? Maybe you should ask your government if they have something else than a good bargain on umbrellas as an answer. The other picture are extraded from a propaganda comics published in July 1989. It says how heroic the army has been and that not a single person has died that day. MMmmm... Really? Let's reprint that book, it will be as useful today that it was in 1989 as we are still hearing the same stories today.

Hate all you want, but Chinese were here before you, and are more than you. Chinese are 1.3 billion and have 5,000 years of history, what do you have?

You are a member of a young minority group. You have not earned the right to hate Chinese. Come back in 4,800 years time and present your case then.
